Does the world need another dog breed??
(It sure needs this one!)

The Australian Cobberdog is the only breed developed for the sole purpose of filling the unique needs of mankind in the 21st century as service, medical alert, and emotional support dogs. Committed MDBA Cobberdog breeders across the world focus on, and select for, certain specific traits consistent with that purpose. They are healers of the human heart and bred to serve in settings such as schools, counseling practices, hospitals, and nursing homes, as well as live-in companions for children with special needs, older adults, or simple a superlative family pet!
Warning: They are very addictive!

Traits of the Breed:

Picture
  • Gentle and loving; affectionate towards other animals and humans.
  • A deep longing to connect to the human soul by way of eye contact.
  • Intuition; a tendency to respond appropriately to human needs and emotions naturally from birth.
  • Athletic yet calm; ready for a game of fetch, or just laying next to you on the sofa if you wish.
  • A general joyfulness and goofy nature.
  • Easy trainability; they have a hunger for learning and adapt their behavior to what will please their human accordingly.
  • Non-shedding allergy friendly coat (progressing toward easy maintenance and away from wool).

About Us

We live on five acres located on the historic seacoast area of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It is a doggie paradise with trails leading right off our property into conservation land, and a clean private 10 acre "kettle" pond behind us. My history includes a degree in Veterinary Technology, and an advanced degree in Counseling/Psychology, so it was only natural to blend my passions for both and become a breeder of the Australian Cobberdog. Many of our dogs currently serve as emotional support dogs in schools or were trained to assist an individual with special needs in their home.

We start our puppies off right utilizing the Avidog method, which begins three days after birth, and continues with a system of socialization challenges to which puppies are exposed in sequence with stages of brain development. Puppies are raised inside the main living area of our home to best prepare them for the sight, sounds, and smells of everyday human life in a home!

We get asked a lot...

We get asked a lot if the Australian Cobberdog is the same thing as the Australian Labradoodle? The answer to that is no. While the same Australian breeders originated both breeds, and they share ancestors, they do not have the same genetic blueprint. Additional breeds were infused into the Australian Cobberdog genepool that are not permitted in the Australian Labradoodle registries. They are different breeds, with different breeding goals, breed standards, and focus.

The MDBA

One reason the original founders of the Australian Labradoodle broke away from the breed was the fact that there was not one registry to monitor and educate breeders in its development. There were various registry clubs sprouting all over the world, each with their own set of rules and leading to the loss of some of the traits the founders had intended.

The MDBA is the ONLY registry for the Australian Cobberdog, and fully monitors its development, so the breed is consistent. Health for a long productive life, as well as temperament for the work of a service animal is the primary goal of MDBA breeders worldwide.

The MDBA recently established a "breeder advisory committee" that meets regularly to discuss necessary plans to futher the goals of the breed and notify breeders of any changes or concerns. Breeders must adhere to the strict code of ethics. Puppy buyers are encouraged to share both positive and negative experiences with the MDBA.  Dogs with hidden health or temperament issues are removed from the program. Only dogs registered with the MDBA are Australian Cobberdogs.
